Mushroom hunting & other autumn stuff..............

While Mummy was away in Spain having snuggles and cuddles with all the galgos at 112 Carlota Galgos (no!!!! I'm NOT jealous.....) I was away on my own adventure, amongst other things mushroom hunting in the forest and having a blast at a Halloween party. So if Mummy thought I was sad and miserable without her.....she was sooooo wrong! :)

Sniff, sniff..........I can feel mushrooms nearby!

All this sniffing business in the forest makes you tired so I need to have a wee rest and also"recharge" my nose so that it can work to perfection!

YES!!!!!! I'm on to something now.........my nostrils are clearly picking up the strong scent of mushrooms!!!!!!
Ehhh.......what????  Are you saying I can't do my business and that I've got a leaf on my nose!!!!!!
Hmpf!!!! Just wait and see what Alvar  & I have found..........

Here's the proof!!!!! A basket FULL with mushrooms that our expert noses have found!

Pretty impressive stuff!
Mummy has never taken me mushroom hunting.....so she has no idea that my fierce hunting instincts can be taken to this level!!!

After hours of mushroom hunting you literally crash once indoors........and the people looking after me (while Mummy was away cuddling & snuggling the galgos!!!!)....they gave me love and tender care, making sure I was warm and cosy.

This was the wildest party I've ever been to!!!!!! Me & 12 mates having a blast at a Halloween party :)
Mummy is so boring.....she's never taken me to a Halloween party! I bet she's hugely curious as to what we got up to!!!!
Hehehe........but that, I'm afraid will remain a big secret :))

EARS with a view!

Mummy's home from Spain and we're back into our usual ongoings. Like walking in our favourite National Park - Ulriksdal!

Squirrels in the oak tree over there........teasing me hugely!!!!!

.........and from hunting mode to pure tranquility. A beautiful autumn morning, just taking in the moment.......

........and another week-end morning, coolish and the lake like a shiny mirror. One of those special moments in nature....so me & Mummy just sat there for a while and "meditated", each in our own way.

There is something incredibly nostalgic and significant about the annual cascade of autumn leaves............

And the arrival of autumn also means the opening of my extensive wardrobe........I happen to be a whippet boy that feels the cold more than many others so I love my warm, cosy clothes.

Sometimes I even surprise myself.....like, ehhhh,,,,,,,,,how did I even think I could possibly climb a tree?!!!!!

In the early evening dusk......we came upon this giant sculpture fish!!!
Look at those BIG, red lips!!!!! I just had to KISS them! :)

Is this pose to your liking Mummy..................?

......or this one, with me "naked"?!!

Autumn walk with my friend Truman.........

Mummy always says that Truman is such a beautiful & gentle boy.......

Truman and wee Pixi
At our favourite dogfriendly café - Ulriksdals Slottscafé :)

Truman couldn't resist the muffin leftovers!!!!!

On the underground.....heading to daycare

..........waiting for the underground, scaring people on the platform that thought I was a leopard!!!!!!

Whenever there's a delay....the train being a few minutes late, Mummy decides to use those spare minutes to "practice" posing!

Arrival at daycare.......ready for a full day with my 40 or so friends! :)

Me & Lamb Chop having cosy snoozings together........

Sometimes I sleep with my pearly whites showing.......

Friday evening at one of Mummy's friends for dinner. I'm all dressed up and immediately made myself very much at home in the bedroom!

......and asleep at home, all cosy and warm under my favourite blankie.

I'm all excited!!!!
My book has arrived......"A Galgo's Christmas Wish", written by Charlotte del Rio. Mummy's friend in Spain who saves and rehabilitates galgos.
Mummy read it to me and we both loved it.

Xmas is soon upon us.....and since I've been such a good boy this year I just know that my Xmas stocking will be overfull with surprises :)
Until next time......stay calm and hug a whippet!

tisdag 4 november 2014

Early autumn visit to 112 Carlota Galgos........a wonderful and very emotional week.

My third visit to 112 Carlota Galgos, this time accompanied by friend Jennie Norrman. A wonderful week that also turned into an emotional roller coaster. Seeing our so loved boy Lucas, his massive progress and how he gradually accepted myself & Jennie was wonderful beyond words. At end of week we were greeted with a wagging tail and him standing up with paws against my chest wanting treats! Well, you can just imagine how amazing that felt!

Emotions also ran very high the day we sent off five precious souls to their forever homes in Canada. And then the horrific drama with Kiara running away not many hours after arriving at her new home. I felt such deep sadness when flying home to Sweden, leaving a totally devastated Charlotte, her heart & soul shattered. And then only hours after arriving in Sweden receiving news that Kiara was caught and safe. So from tears of sadness to a flood of happy tears and the entire 112 CG community could draw a massive sigh of relief.

As always the overriding feeling when staying at the finca is one of magical galgo love.......so here's a summarized account of our week.

Flight left Stockholm at 06.00 and some 4 hours later approaching Malaga

Feels so good......not long now before we're swallowed up by galgo love :)

Hurry up Charlotte.......can't wait to see you coming in the new van!!!!!

And here she is, our Angel of Galgos, the one and only Charlotte del Rio!
..........and the brand new shining van which will look stunning once the 112 CG logos are in place :)

Arrival at the finca!

........and a wonderful, warm welcoming hug from Dioni.

Niebla, Chief Watch Dog at the finca immediately demands tummy rubs!!!!!

You're so special Niebla......and at this point you have no idea that these two ladies will become your PT's (personal trainers) during their stay!!! You will be undergoing a training programme you've never done before and I can only say that you did really good, your stamina really impressed us!!!!

Chapter Lucas

Ahhhhh.........this moment. I have longed for it for months. Ever since Lucas arrived in his horrific state I have longed to meet him, this special boy that has touched hearts across the world, that is loved by so many, and we have all watched the amazing work that Charlotte and family have done with him. The transformation is incredible and so heartwarming that you cannot but cry happy tears when you spend time with this boy.

It's ok Lucas,  just have a wee sniff of this new person you've never seen before......

Serving Lucas breakfast was a chore I immediately claimed to be mine :) I was always very eager in the morning to quickly attend to him and get the can of tuna in the house to mix in with his pebbles. Our boy does have special treatment....and he so deserves it! It has done wonders to his coat and weight. He's now a nice "sturdy" boy and in the not too distant future will be a boy that will be wonderful to shower with hugs and cuddles in his forever home.

Morning Lucas......how're you feeling today? Getting used to me & Jennie?

Yes you are!!!!! You just LOVE these delicious chews we brought you!

So sweet........you loved lying on top of your transportine in your wee house, just peering out, watching the ongoings of the family and family dogs.

One morning was extra chilly so I wrapped a blankie round you.......

Such a handsome boy....these days always seeking eye contact.
Talks alot and I loved his sweet sound, one that we've all heard so many times on videos published by Charlotte.

Morning kisses from Mama Charlotte. Telling you it's time to go walkies.......

You were so good Lucas on the walks, no longer shrinking with fear towards the outside world of the finca. Dearing to even do a bit of sniffings......

Once in a while stopping for a rest, always taking it in his pace..........

.....and sometimes a wee rest along the road. And family dogs would then form a protective circle round him....very touching.

Sofia has spent lots of time building up Lucas confidence and it's very special considering that Lucas was stoned by children. That knowledge is so very hard to take in, the cruelty our Lucas has endured in his past.......

Sofia......such a lovely girl. She has the "gift" with animals and her involvement in severely traumatized souls that come to the finca is so valuable.

Looking quite perky and alert there Lucas :)

A bit sleepy...........time for snoozings.

Had a bit of a play and got hot!!!!!!
Look at those "happy" eyes"!!!

Chapter Quarantine bay - Hugo, Leo & Alana

Hugo, Leo & Alana in the quarantine bay.
Jennie & I got to spend a lot of time with these three and Hugo & Leo were walked more than any other dogs.
Halfway through our week Alana left for Canada to her forever home!

Leo - the boy with an amazing face and expressive eyes. The boy that is a longtimer at 112 CG. The boy that Charlotte even doubted could ever be placed for adoption. But what a long way he's come in the past year, I see a massive difference in him since my previous visit in January. He still has fears to combat but he's a hugely playful boy and was wonderful to walk with, great on the lead.

Hugo - the boy with such amazing ears!! (As regards ears, I have a whippet boy Milou with huge radar ears that I love to bits so I instantly fell in love with Hugo's!)
Hugo is so handsome, beautiful shiny coat and generally in great condition. A wonderful boy to take on walks, so easy and such a lovely personality.
Hugo is counting down the weeks as in December he will be leaving for his forever home in the UK, his Mama Micha Bradley waiting impatiently with 10 brothers and sisters for Hugo :)

Yummy chews were a daily treat in the quarantine bay!

Alana.....the happy-go-lucky girl :) Always greeted you with jumps and massive tail waggings!
Now happy in Canada with her forever family.

Jennie was very naughty so I decided she'd have to spend the night with the lovely three in the quarantine bay! One of the beds in there is big so no problem for Jennie to curl up in it!!!

These beautiful boys greeted us each morning.....

.......and we always started the morning by taking them up in the field for toilet and zoomies!

What ya seen Hugo??!! Leo has no clue.........

Leo: catch me if you can Hugo!

EARS!!!!!!!!

A hot Leo after all that running.......

OK boys.....have you had enough? Ready for breakfast.........

Your time will come Leo, you're not far off. There's a forever home out there for you........

Alana enjoying a piece of marrow bone......

........and  Hugo!

Loved playing with these boys!

Hugo instantly won our hearts!

Good boy Leo........Mama Charl removing your staples (he'd had a wee accident).

Chapter Family dogs and ongoings............

Ebro - our miracle boy, a living legend.
The symbol for hope, the symbol for nothing is impossible even in the darkest of moments.
I have always been awestruck by your beauty, your head and expressive eyes take my breath away. Against all odds you survived, you clung to life and your Mama Charl nursed you 24/7, not for a second letting you go.
Today, the change in you is remarkable and so wonderful. I see a vast change in your personality in the 10 months since I last visited. You have come out of your shell, you're no longer fearful of strangers, you're cocky and up to mischief, you went for several walks and no longer fear the outside world of the finca. And last but not least, you don't get all fretful and anxious as soon as Mama Charl is not within sight.
You're embracing life Ebro, the fincas CFC (Chief Fly Catcher)!!!!

Ambo - such a gentle giant. Been with Charl since a puppy and is the Ambasadog for 112 CG. Such a balanced boy, full of harmony and a great "tutor" to take along on walks together with dogs that are traumatized and caught in their fears.

Dobi - nr 2 Watch dog of the finca. So happy and healthy these days, always bouncing and jumping.
We love you Dobi :)

Happy Ebs enjoying a chew!

Puppy Jasper - the puppy with the long legs and tail that everyone wants to carry and cuddle.
Jasper is adorable and when he arrived at the finca, a walking skeleton with his head the largest part of his body, we all gasped with despair and horror. How could any human be so cruel to this wee puppy. Humanity is so very hard to understand at times. But Jasper was saved and being so young the mental scars of his past are not deep and today he's like any other happy, playful puppy.
Jasper is adopted and will be going to his forever home in December :)

Ambo..........standing on the bench checking out the ongoings in Lucas garden :)

Puppy Jasper

.............always has morning snoozings and cuddles with Neizan!

Look at me!!!!!!
Am I a handsome puppy or what............

Ambo, as tall as Mama Charl, wanting a good morning kiss.

Sofia with her so loved Baby Beth.
Beth showing off her lovely new collar and lead!

Family pod BB. Neizan's dog, a girl he saved at a perrera, just wouldn't leave without her and the rest is history.
She is the sweetest girl and I would love to have sneaked her with me home to Sweden!
Jennie, so totally relaxed, relishing the moment with BB in her arms.

Say "cheese" to the camera BB!

Puppy Jasper........handed from arms to arms......

.......to arms!

Baby Beth, adorable in her pink princess collar!

Mocha - Charl's so loved cat. He sleeps literally wrapped round her chest and head every night. He's Charl's "sleeping pill" because she can't sleep if he's not there.

Time for family dogs to get squeaky clean.......Clara is first up!

.........now wee Jasper's turn!

BB.......all clean, wrapped up in my arms!
Love this wee girl........

Chief Watch Dog of the finca - Niebla!
Not entirely convinced she needed a clean but seemed to enjoy the shampoo massage I gave her :)

......and when you're squeaky clean Niebla, you have to go for a walk on the lead so that you'll dry and prevent you from rolling in the dirt!!!!
This being on the lead business was not appreciated!

Sofia loves her horse riding. And we went along with her when she had a lesson.

Looking so good Sofia. Hopefully you'll be riding Bailey in the future!

Charlotte with dear friend Marco!
Marco worked at the finca in the mornings during our stay. He's truly a godsend and does a great job with the dogs in the orchard and anything else that needs doing around the finca.
A wonderful person that I'm so glad I had the opportunity to meet.

Chapter - The Orchard and walks

Hi beautiful souls!!!! We're coming in now.........

Marco being greeted - so in control with dogs and all the routines in the orchard!

Morning........and dogs let out for a run around before breakfast!

Pretty flower arrangements around the finca.......

Sofia.....has such a natural way with the dogs. She really takes after her Mother and has the silent gift of communication with these precious souls.

Cashmere - such a shining black beauty. Wonderful, happy and social personality. Always at the front when we entered the orchard and ALWAYS wanting to be chosen for walkies :)
As I write this Cashmere "Cash" is on his way to his forever Mama Sheena Brown in the UK. A wonderful family awaits him with brothers and sisters :)

Kiara

Cashmere:   Mama Sheena........I want to come home"!!!!!

Esme - the most stunning, beautiful girl of the orchard. Very timid and still scared of strangers. She's a quiet and gentle girl and I kept telling her that her forever Mama, Janice Ball (in the UK) is waiting for her :) A perfect home for Esme, a home that oozes tranquility and Esme will have lots of brothers and sisters that will take care of her and help her come out of her "shell".

Esme......I so understand why your forever Mama fell in love with you!

Giving Esme some wee treats but she's not convinced she can have them.......

Soon going home to Mama Janice........

The very handsome boy Chess with the beautiful black spot on his forehead......so made for kissing! And that spot will very, very soon be smudged with squillions of kisses by his forever Mama Alana Darling. Chess is as I write this, on his way home......and soon in the arms of his Mama Alana :)

Coming home soon Mama Alana.......

We're all mates here so sharing beds is very cosy :)

The one and only KIARA!
This happy girl was always the first at the gate like this........wanting to say hi and get cuddles as we approached. So easy to fall in love with her.

Sweep, sweep, sweep....scrub a dub dub..........bays to be cleaned spotlessly for our precious orchard guests!

Cleaning lady Jennie, smiling so happily, loves her job!!!!

Cleaning bays is a good workout and I think I've never ever enjoyed a shower so much afterwards! :)

Hot day........relaxing in the shade.

Adam.......he totally stole our hearts. Jennie & I would almost "fight" over who was to walk him. Perfect boy on walks and on the lead. Very loving personality so it came as no surprise that he was adopted locally by a close friend of Marcos. Suddenly......on our fourth day he was gone and we were over the moon happy for him :)

The gorgeous and cuddly girl Blossom!

Sally found a cool spot...... having a siesta.

Playtime for Adam :)

Pretty Sally.......so love her spots!

Cashmere

Magic

Cuddles with Kiara........

Sally

Brother & sister, Sam & Sally!
Lovely couple with strong personalities. Were good on walks and on the lead and they sooooo loved to be cuddled.

Sorry Mama Sheena but Cashmere is sharing a kiss with Jennie ;)

Adam spent the night in Lucas bay while Lucas slept in the quarantine bay.

Adam......so full of joy when we came to him in the morning. Look at that happy face :)

Hanging out in the orchard........

Dinner served Cashmere!

Murphy's having a wee play.......

The lovely, so special Kiara.......

First group ready for walkies!!!

During our week we also took great joy in walking all the family dogs!

Beautiful morning walk.......perfect way to start the day before breakfast!

Niebla up front taking the lead........and when she slipped behind because of irresistible stuff along the roadside she then had to go from walking to a trot to a run.....in order to catch up with us. A great sight seeing Niebla running :) This was of course all part of her rigorous training schedule :)

Clara - such a loved family girl. Has the most sweet personality and I could sit and stroke her head forever......

Ooops..........wee BB with us on a walk, better hold onto that lead extra tight!!!!!!!!

Ahhhh..........mine & Jennie's companions for the week, our darlings Leo & Hugo!

I think Leo might miss you Hugo, once you leave for your forever home in December.......

Cashmere

Adam............loved by all that visited the finca!

Rue & Adam

Cashmere, Sam & Blossom

Out on a big group walk........

Great walk and so good for the dogs to see something other than the orchard and practice walking on the lead......

Such well-behaved dogs heading back down to the orchard........

Chapter - Bailey, loved finca horse

Ahhhh.....the one and only beautiful finca horse Bailey!
She's such a dear girl and I loved giving her carrots and apples every day.
Having a wee chat with her...........

Munch, crunch, crunch.......that apple is really appreciated!
But those horrid, nasty flies Bailey.....we must get rid of them instantly!!!!!

.....there, so much better! Nasty flies all gone.

A cuddle with Jennie

Bailey having a wee cruise around Lucas garden, munching on the small grass patches......

A wonderful sight.........Charlotte taking Bailey for an evening ride.
Special few hours just the two of them together.......

Bar-be-que!
A small gathering of local adoptants came for an afternoon bare-be-que.

A very happy Dioni :)

Brooklyn - so incredibly handsome, amazing coat like silk to touch.

Charlotte, Tania & Agrippina, sharing a beer and one or two secrets! ;)

For Charlotte, seeing her adopted dogs is always a special moment!

Adam and all the ladies!

Whenever there's a bar-be-que the family dogs immediately congregate and take position(s) under the table!!!!!
Clara:  not too pleased about the service here........where's my food??!!

Niebla:   as Chief Watch Dog of the finca I demand the largest steak pronto!!!!!!!

BB:   .....ehhhh excuse me, as the smallest dog at the finca I deserve very special treatment!

Ambo:  since my beautiful, regal head adorns the 112 Carlota Galgos logo I deserve the most and the best!!!!

Love all around at the finca.....me & BB, Brooklyn & his Papa.

Puppy Jasper soooo very tired......loves being craddled like a baby.

Yet another amazing sunset, the evening air balmy warm, the orchard dogs fed and in their bays for the night, now time for a longed for shower and dinner......

A yummy tuna salad on the menu this evening :)

We were three residents in the tiny cabin. Myself, Jennie and Monkey!
Monkey lived on top of the closet.........and those black things are not freckles but flies! Luckily for us the flies were very in tune with our routines so as soon as the light was out they went to sleep all night and did not disturb us :)

Our Angel of Galgos hard at work in her office........endless paperwork, emails etc need attending to.

A visit to the perrera with Tania to see Amelia and podenco Nathan. They are in residence until space is freed up at the finca but should be arriving there any day now.

Always very emotional visiting the perrera......so sunglasses on quickly!
Nathan........such a lovely pod but very thin and with a sick leg that needs to be kept an eye on.

Amelia - gorgeous sweet girl. So excited to see us.........you'll soon be home at the finca.

Tania & Amelia

Chapter - five precious souls leaving for Canada

Tania giving the lovely Kiara a bath, all part of preparations for tomorrows grand departure to Canada!

Such a good girl Kiara.......and now for an ear cleansing!

Now Alana's turn..........I think she enjoyed the shampoo massage :)

...........and gorgeous Rue also needs to be squeaky clean for the BIG day tomorrow!

The next important task is getting the five transportines ready. Layers of nappy covers and on top a cosy fleece cover makes a nice bed for our precious "cargo".......

Inspector Bailey doing a QUALITY CHECK on the transportines!!!
I think we got the Ok ;)

The BIG day has arrived!!!!
Five darlings are leaving 112 Carlota Galgos for their forever homes in Canada. This is the moment, this is the final goal for all rescues at 112 CG - to be sent off on their final journey.
A journey that has loving and excited adoptants waiting for them at their destination.

At the airport, waiting to be checked through for final security before boarding.....

A wee accident in one of the transportines.......so a quick tidy up and then

........back inside, wondering what on earth is going on. A short while ago at the finca and now here in this very strange environment.

Now only minutes before we send them off..........

Group picture........the feeling is surreal and very emotional, the knowledge that within 8 hours these five beautiful souls will be so far away.
In Canada, taking their first paw steps on Canadian soil walking straight into loving families that have waited for this moment so long, to finally welcome their new family members.
It was wonderful meeting you Tania and Agrippina!
Thank you for taking these darlings safely home!

Another beautiful day greets us.......but my chest is filled with sadness. This is our last morning, within a few hours we head for the airport, then home to Sweden......

Everything this last morning was painful for me.
Our three so loved boys in the quarantine bay, Leo, Hugo & Lucas greeting us ........waiting to go walkies and then breakfast.

Seeing Niebla in Dobi's bed......yet again!!!!! Made me laugh but also cry. We've had much fun being your Personal Trainers Niebla. You've been nothing less than amazing doing so many walks with us each day and we challenged you into a trot and then even a run. I think you set a pb with 8 walks in the same day!!!!!!!
Your PT's are VERY proud of you Niebla, so until our next visit.....keep up the good work :)

A last walk with our darling boys.......

A quick good-bye to Bailey.
I love you Bailey and I know I've probably given you way too many carrots and apples this week but what the hell..........and I don't think your Mama minds :)

Ebro - our so loved miracle boy.
I've loved seeing the change in you.........you're now daring and enjoying simply being a dog. You've come such a long way and you have taught us never to give up. There is always hope and lightness even in the darkest of moments.
The world loves you Ebro and you are a true inspiration.....and that aside you're a soppy, goofy, squiddly, diddly Mama's boy :)

Angel helpers of the finca - Mary & Marco.
Thank you for doing what you do - you're  truly a godsend!

Lucas........I could barely enter your garden this last morning, I couldn't see anything as tears were flowing. But you changed that to happy tears and gave me and Jennie the best ever going home present!!!!
You came running out to greet us with wagging tail, your eyes happy, you licked your mouth......

........and you stood up with paws against me reaching for your yummy treat!!!!!!!
We were over the moon seeing you like this. Such a privilege spending time with you Lucas and there is no doubt in my mind that you are not that far off from being ready for your own forever home.
Will always love you Lucas......will always follow your life.

This is the worst departure I've ever had.
The horrific news that reached us a day before leaving, that Kiara had escaped, only hours after arriving at her new home in Canada. Running off in the middle of the night, in cold, rainy and stormy weather.
Total devastation for Charlotte and deep sadness felt by everyone........ all we could do was pray, pray and pray.........

A final hug.......

How I hated leaving like this.....and I cried halfway to Sweden...........

All I did on that flight home to Sweden was pray over and over again......Kiara come, Kiara come, Kiara come......

.....and so she did!!!!!
The rest is history, we know she was finally found and caught.
What better way to end this account than with this wonderful picture of Kiara with Charlotte & Dioni.
At this moment Charlotte's heart and soul are healed and she can let go of the massive burden she'd carried within when Kiara went missing.
Love never fails.........and the love, compassion and empathy that so many people in Canada showed by helping in the search for Kiara is humanity at it's best. Bless you all!!!!

So until I visit 112 Carlota Galgos next time, I'll keep praying for all the Galgos espanol.....praying that many of them will be as lucky as the beautiful souls that find their way to Charlotte & family.

A wonderful book by Charlotte del Rio, a perfect present for children this Christmas. The proceeds of every book purchased will go towards the work of healing and rehabilitating the galgos at 112 Carlota Galgos!
